Maja River in Pegadungan Strewn with Water Hyacinth and Mud

A Maja River that passes RW 09, Pegadungan Urban Village, Kalideres Sub-District, West Jakarta, once again strewn with water hyacinth and mud. As a result, the culverts and channels cannot work optimally when rain pours.

Muflihun, (60), a citizen of RT 07/09, Pegadungan Urban Village said the Maja River flows water from Tangerang area and empties into the Angke River. "The river passes from Tangerang, Pegadungan, Cengkareng, Kapuk, and empties to Angke Pesing River," he expressed, Teusday (7/15).

He told that the normalization had been conducted two years ago by dredging and widening on both sides of the river about 2 meters. Due to lack of maintenance, has caused water hyacinth and mud strewn the river. "Thus, locals are difficult to use the river to wash clothes," he stated.
